French retailer Go Sport to open 20 to 40 multi brand sports retail stores in India, Sri Lanka starting from May in parternship with Lulu India

The Go Sport Group is a holding company controlling French companies specializing in the distribution of sporting goods.

It operates 120 stores in France, 29 stores in Poland – More than 40 international master franchise stores. The company was founded in 1978 and is based in Sassenage, France.

Groupe Go Sport, which not only has the Go Sports chain, but also specialty stores like Courir (for running shoes), Bike+ (for bicycles) and Go Sport Montagne (for mountain sports), currently has more than 500 stores. The majority (425) is located in it’s home territory France, but the chain wants expansion abroad.

The group has moved to Asia, it signed a deal with Lulu Group International, one of Asia’s largest store managers. Lulu has first opened Go Sport store in Manila and now opened the first Indian store in May. With more than one billion citizens, India should be able to harbor forty Go Sports stores and an equal amount of Courier locations.

Go Sport had a 2017 turnover close to 1 billion euro and experienced a 5 % growth compared to the year before. Its main shareholder is distribution group Rallye, which also owns shares in supermarket chain Casino.

The retail arm of Lulu International Tablez will be launching the French Multisport brand ‘Go Sport’ in India by the month of May. Tablez will open it is first ‘Go Sport’ showroom in Mumbai followed by Bengaluru and other major cities. The company has earmarked an investment of Rs 100 crore ($14.33 million) on expansion across categories for the financial year 2019-20.

In the last two years, it brought into India international retail brands such as Springfield, Women’s secret, Toys’R’Us, Babies’R’Us, and Build-A-Bear. The company plans to invest another Rs100 crore to expand across segments, including Sports, beverages, toys, apparel, etc.

Tablez also has a licensing agreement with Chinese lifestyle brand Yoyoso to exclusive retail the brand in the Indian market and has committed to open 30 Yoyoso stores in leading Indian cities over the next five years.

Lulu’s Tablez to launch Go Sport brand in India: GO Sport as the brand is looking at being the only one stop organized sports retailer with a multitude of consumer-friendly power brands and private label brands. Spread over 14,000 sq.ft, GO Sport will give Mumbai’s sporting enthusiasts an experience to remember. Tablez plans to expand GO Sport to Bengaluru and other metropolitan cities later this year.
